✔ Modi, Trump hold talks on sidelines of ASEAN summit

A day after India held official level talks with the U.S., Japan, and Australia on a quadrilateral process of greater cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with United States President Donald Trump in Manila on Monday. The two leaders are understood to have discussed the security scenario in the region besides several other issues of mutual interests.

✔ Iran, Iraq quake death toll rises to over 350

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the Iraq-Iran border region killed over 350 people in both countries, sent people fleeing their homes into the night and was felt as far west as the Mediterranean coast, authorities reported on Monday.

✔ Municipal areas across country exempt from highway liquor ban, Supreme Court further clarifies

The Supreme Court on Monday came out with an explanation of its July 11 order, which clarified that stretches of highways running through municipal areas were exempted from the December 2016 ban on sale of liquor within 500 metres along national and States highways. It said the exemption from ban applies to municipal areas across the country.

✔ Krishna boat capsize toll mounts to 21

The death toll in private boat mishap at Pavitra Sangamam went up to 21 on Monday with the rescue teams fishing out more bodies of victims. One of them died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Four persons including two crew members are still missing and search operation is on, according to authorities.

Costlier food items, particularly vegetables, pushed up retail inflation in October to seven-month high of 3.58%. The Consumer Price Index-based inflation was 3.28% in September. It was 4.2% in October last year. The previous high was 3.89% in March this year.
